Dr. Danylo Butenko
Veterinarian
Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist
Dr. Danylo Butenko was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. Thanks to his parents’ love for animals, he grew up around pets. As a young person, Dr. Butenko read many books about animals, especially ones that exemplified the human – animal bond. He shared strong bonds with his pets, and at a tender age he experienced a tragic loss of one of his beloved companions. Although he did not know it at the time, this was the catalyst for his dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Dr. Butenko earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a concentration in neuro-psychology from Westminster College. He graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and in 2011 became a certified veterinary acupuncturist. He belongs to the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Butenko incorporates traditional Chinese veterinary medicine with western veterinary medicine. This includes using acupuncture and herbal therapy alongside conventional medicines. Dr. Butenko enjoys visiting classrooms and talking to students about veterinary medicine. He also appeared on an international news program to explain how to bring pets to the U.S. from Ukraine.
Shortly after completing veterinary school, Dr. Butenko moved to Chicago. He lives in the Ukrainian Village with his wife and two children. Dr. Butenko is fluent in both English and Ukrainian. His family has strong ties to the neighborhood and it has always been his dream to be able to serve the community that means so much to his family.

We Treat Pets As Individuals
We make recommendations based specifically on your pet. Your pet is an individual and what works for him or her may or may not work for others.

We also met an amazing doctor.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Andrew for his calm attitude, thoughtful explanations, and sincere care.
You made everything feel clear and safe — and that means the world.
Special thanks to technician Roman — for being kind, attentive, and making everything easier.
You’re the kind of people who make healthcare feel human again.
2024 Update: Dental cleaning went GREAT! Everyone was so kind and thorough and I felt so reassured my pets were in good hands. The price matched their estimates and they had great advice for how to care for their teeth moving forward.
*8/29/2024: I just had to add on to my original review—my senior cat passed away today and I was understandably torn up. Dr. Butenko took time out of his day to call me after hours to offer his sympathies over the phone. That level of care is proof of how amazing a vet Dr Butenko and his team are. I couldn’t be more impressed, and I’m so grateful my Mason had such an incredible vet and person caring for him in his old age.
Corky now LOVES going to the vet. When he can tell we are walking there he gets excited and if we are ever in the vicinity without an appointment, he'll beg to go inside.
It's always easy to book, although the doctor's schedule can be busy sometimes so always try to plan in advance. Also the vet techs and front desk staff have been very helpful in providing me the documentation I need for pet insurance claims.
I love my dog more than anything and I feel super confident with him in the care of the Ukrainian Village Veterinary Center. Highly recommend to pet parents in the neighborhood!
